Maximizing Your Impact: A Guide for Taking a Systems Approach in the Care and Protection of Children

If you are engaged in efforts to support orphaned and vulnerable children and their families, chances are you have a desire to have a meaningful impact.

If you recognise the importance of supporting children within families and are looking for the best ways to engage in this space, a new resource from Faith to Action has been designed to help leverage resources and efforts for maximum impact – Maximising Your Impact: A Guide for Taking a Systems Approach in the Care and Protection of Children.

There has been much progress in prioritising family-based care around the world. A large amount of focus has necessarily been on awareness raising. With the momentum gained, it’s important for efforts to now dive deeper into pursuing quality family-based care.

We want to be strategic and effective. We desire to see positive, sustainable, long-term changes. Focusing on systems is the way to approach this.

“Systems thinkers argue that interventions do not always produce neat, sequential, and contained outcomes; instead, an ongoing process of innovation, reflection, and learning is needed to bring about social change.” - Systems Change: A Guide for What It Is and How to Do It

A systems approach involves embracing humility, learning, collaborating, building the capacity of others, advocating and filling gaps if necessary. This guide will show you how!

You will learn:

  • The limitations of common approaches to supporting orphaned and vulnerable children;

  • A framework to support orphaned and vulnerable children that maximizes impact;

  • The benefits of focusing on the broader system of care and protection; and

  • Concrete and simple actions to incorporate an approach that focuses on systems.
